Some people actually laugh when they see the Fresh Foam X More v4 by New Balance for the first time. They are delighted by a shoe with a midsole so massive that it dwarfs its own upper! But the More v4’s midsole is not just a cosmetic feature. It sponges up shock so effectively that the athletic shoe has already become many people’s new favorite for road running and casual strolling alike.
Super Foamy
The More v4 features more Fresh Foam X than any shoe New Balance has designed to date. The distinctively large midsole extends throughout the entire shoe, and excels at absorbing shock to create a plush yet stable running experience. Better still, the More v4’s meticulously engineered outsole applies strategic placement of cushion and flex zones to promote a more natural stride.
Incredibly Comfy
The wide base Fresh Foam X midsole’s effect on your feet is exactly what you would expect: outstanding cushioning with each and every stride. New Balance’s mesh upper only improves the experience by locking the foot comfortably in place with zonal support and a specially designed asymmetrical tongue. And despite its all-synthetic composition, the upper is also extremely breathable – perfect if you like to build up a sweat while you’re beating the pavement.
Surprisingly Lightweight
Despite the rather impressive appearance created by its 1.34″ heel stack, the More v4 is still a middleweight running shoe. A pair of men’s sneakers weighs 10.9 ounces, and women’s are even lighter at 9 ounces (give or take depending on size). Because running shoes typically weigh between 6.5 and 13 ounces, the More v4’s weight classifies as average. To be certain, the More v4 is not the world’s lightest available shoe. For example, a pair of women’s Hoka Rincon 3 sneakers tips the scale at just 7.2 ounces, which classifies as truly lightweight.
Eco-Friendly
New Balance’s own Green Leaf Standard means at least 50% of their shoes’ uppers are sourced from environmentally preferred materials, such as recycled polymer. Fresh Foam X itself is made with 3% bio-based content that is sourced from renewable resources. The Boston-based company is currently planning to produce zero landfill waste by 2025.
Subtly Attractive
Many running shoes feature quite striking color schemes. The More v4 dials it back a little bit with more subdued styles that are just as suitable for casual wear as they are the workplace. Men’s shoes available in white with electric teal, black with phantom, arctic gray with natural indigo, and cobalt with black; women’s are available in bright lapis with cobalt, white with cobalt, black with starlight, and summer fog with rain cloud (New Balance’s extremely frilly way of saying “solid white”). Men’s sizes range from 7 to 16; women’s sizes range from 5 to 13.
Whichever style of More v4 you choose, you will still wear New Balance’s large reflective N logo on the outside of your uppers. It is a small detail, but a little added reflectivity never hurt a motorist’s chance of seeing you while you’re jogging at night!
