Imagine you are running across the fluffiest cloud. That cloud is sitting atop the fluffiest sheep. That sheep is standing on top of a pillow, which is also extremely fluffy.

Now get this: You are only imagining one one-thousandth of the comfort you would experience while running in the Brooks Glycerin Max.

Are we exaggerating? Maybe a little. But that doesn’t change the fact that the Glycerin Max is Brooks’ cushiest road running shoe to date.

How did the Seattle-based athletic footwear company pull it off? The answer is simple: It’s in their DNA.

DNA Tuned

The Glycerin Max’s release on October 5th, 2024 marked the introduction of DNA Tuned: Brooks’ next generation of nitrogen-infused foam. The Glycerin Max’s impressively thick midsole features dual-sized cell technology, with larger cells in the heel that provide cushy landings and smaller cells in the forefoot that promote responsive toe-offs. As a result, DNA Tuned simultaneously increases comfort while minimizing fatigue – the reason why the Glycerin Max satisfies short-distance joggers and long-distance runners alike.

GlideRoll Rocker

DNA Tuned doesn’t deliver a surprisingly smooth stride on its own. The thick foam midsole synergizes with Brooks’ proprietary GlideRoll Rocker: a special sculpting of the midsole and outsole which minimizes underfoot pressure, softens landings, and provides the smoothest heel-to-toe transition many runners have ever experienced.

Max Stack

The Glycerin Max is the very definition of a high-stack running shoe, with a 45 mm (1.77″) heel and 39 mm forefoot (1.54″), which translates to 6 mm (0.24″) midsole drop. Such a towering stack height is indicative of a shoe with superior cushioning, which is the Glycerin Max to a T.

Take care, as the Glycerin Max’s massive midsole is not intended for runners who prefer feeling the road beneath their feet. The Glycerin Max is also relatively heavy at 10.9 oz. for a U.S. men’s size 9, or 9.5 oz. for a U.S. women’s size 7.5 – significantly above the 8.8 oz. threshold for what constitutes a lightweight daily trainer.

Comfortable Upper

The Glycerin Max’s comfort-enhancing technology doesn’t end with its midsole. The standard Glycerin model’s breathable mesh base, soft tongue, and spacious toe box all make their return in the Glycerin Max.

Although a shoe’s appearance doesn’t enhance its performance, the Glycerin Max’s striking style begs mentioning all the same. This shoe is a head-turner, with a midsole that almost resembles the hull of a yacht and a giant Brooks logo that declares the wearer’s affinity for quality yet stylish running shoes.
